Get Bursty & Perplexed with WordPress on a Mac
Are you a Mac user who wants to create a website or blog with WordPress? Well, you’re in luck because WordPress is a popular, free, and open source content management system that makes publishing and managing content easy.
But how do you get started with using WordPress on your Mac? That’s what we’ll explore in this article!
Step 1: Install MAMP
The first step to using WordPress on a Mac is to install MAMP, a software package that provides everything you need to run a local web server on your computer. Sounds confusing, right? But don’t worry, MAMP is available for free and can be downloaded from their website.
Step 2: Install WordPress
Once MAMP is installed, it’s time to install WordPress. But wait, where do you download WordPress from? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered! Download the WordPress software from the WordPress website, and extract the ZIP file. Then, move the WordPress folder to the “htdocs” folder in MAMP.
But then what? Don’t panic! Open your web browser and type “localhost” in the address bar to see the MAMP welcome page. Click on the “phpMyAdmin” link to access the database management tool. Create a new database by clicking on the “Database” tab and entering a name for the database, such as “wordpress.”
Now it’s time to go to your browser again and type “localhost/wordpress” in the address bar. Choose your preferred language for the installation, and click “Continue.” On the next screen, enter the database name, username, and password that you created earlier in phpMyAdmin. Click “Submit” and then “Run the install”.
Step 3: Customize WordPress
Now that you’ve installed WordPress, it’s time to customize it. But where do you even start? Don’t worry, there are tons of free and premium themes available. To install a new theme, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on “Appearance” and then “Themes.”
Choose from the plethora of installed themes, or upload your own from your computer or third-party website. Once you’ve installed a theme, customize it by going to the “Appearance” tab and clicking on “Customize.” This will open the theme customization tool where you can change the theme settings to your liking.
Step 4: Install Plugins
Plugins are great tools that add new features and functionality to your website or blog. WordPress offers thousands of free and premium plugins, so the options are endless! To install a new plugin, go to your WordPress dashboard and click on “Plugins.” You can choose from installed plugins, or search, upload, or install a new plugin.
Some plugins may require additional configuration, which can be accessed by clicking on “Settings” or “Options.”
Voila! You now know how to get started with WordPress on a Mac by installing, configuring, and customizing it to make your website or blog unique and functional. Who knew it was so easy?!
