Why Verify Your Domain?
Verifying your domain on social media platforms such as Facebook and WordPress is essential for building brand trust and protecting your website from impersonation. It also enhances your brand reputation, improves organic reach, and increases referral traffic.
How to Verify Your Domain on Facebook
- Log in to your Facebook account and access the Business Manager through the drop-down menu in the top left corner.
- Click on the gear icon in the top right corner, and then select the Business Manager Settings option.
- Select the Domains option from the left-hand menu, then click on the Add button to add your domain.
- Provide your domain name, and then click on the Add Domain button.
- Select the DNS Verification tab, and then copy the DNS Verification ID as provided by Facebook. You will need this ID to verify your domain ownership through your domain registrar.
- Log in to your domain registrar, e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, among others.
- Go to DNS Management, then add a new DNS record using the DNS Verification ID you copied in Step 5. Set the DNS record type to TXT, and then enter the DNS Verification ID in the value field.
- Go back to the Facebook Business Manager, and click on the Verify button. If the verification process is successful, your domain will be verified, and you can check its status under the Domains tab.
Note: The DNS record may take a few hours to propagate, so you may need to wait for a while before verifying your domain.
How to Verify Your Domain on WordPress
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard, and then install the Jetpack plugin. This plugin is essential for verifying your domain on WordPress.
- Connect your Jetpack plugin with the WordPress.com account by providing your username and password. If you don’t have a WordPress.com account, create one by following the prompts.
- After connecting Jetpack with WordPress.com, you can activate it on your site. Go to the Jetpack plugin settings, and click on the Activate button.
- Select the Site Verification tab, and then click on the Verify Configuration button. Jetpack will check if your website is accessible, and if successful, it will display a green checkmark.
- Once your site is verified, you will receive an email from WordPress.com. Follow the instructions to complete your site verification.
- After verifying your domain, you can secure your site by enabling SSL, which encrypts your site data to maintain user privacy and prevent hacking. You can use a plugin such as Let’s Encrypt or Cloudflare to enable SSL on your WordPress site.
