Are you an experienced blogger who started on Blogger but reached the limits of what you can do with the platform? Perhaps it’s time to consider migrating to WordPress. While the process may seem overwhelming, it is manageable. Below, we outline the steps to migrate your blog from Blogger to WordPress.
Step 1: Choose Your WordPress Hosting
The first step to migrate to WordPress is to choose a reliable and user-friendly hosting provider that supports WordPress. We recommend using Bluehost.
Step 2: Install WordPress
After selecting a hosting provider, install WordPress on your new site using one of the many one-click installation options available.
Step 3: Export Your Content from Blogger
While you can export your content from Blogger, not everything transfers over, such as tags, comments, and images. It is crucial to export your content carefully. To export, log into your Blogger account, go to Settings, and click Export Blog. Select the option to export the entire blog and download the file.
Step 4: Import Your Content to WordPress
To import your content, log into your WordPress site and go to Tools → Import. Choose the Blogger option and click Install Now. After installing the importer, upload your downloaded Blogger file and allocate the imported content to your new WordPress site’s authors. Finally, submit to import your Blogger content to WordPress.
Step 5: Redirect Your Old Blogger URL to Your New WordPress URL
After importing your content into WordPress, it is essential to redirect your old Blogger URLs to new WordPress URLs. This is to ensure your readers can find your content after you have moved to WordPress. Set up a 301 redirect by logging into your Blogger account, go to Settings, and click Edit next to the Blog Address. Select the option to Redirect yourdomain.com to www.yourdomain.com, then copy the code below. Navigate to your WordPress dashboard and go to Tools → Redirection. Under the Add new redirection area, paste the code you copied from Blogger, add the source URL alongside the target URL, and save the changes.
Step 6: Install WordPress Plugins
Finally, install WordPress plugins that add functionality and optimize your site for search engines. Some must-have plugins are Yoast SEO, Jetpack, WPForms, and WooCommerce.
By following these steps, you will successfully migrate your blog from Blogger to WordPress, opening up endless possibilities for your blogging journey.
