Feeling Lost? Here’s How to Set Up a Homepage on WordPress

Step 1: Choose a Theme

If you’re a WordPress newbie, setting up a homepage can be daunting. But fear not! It all starts with choosing a theme. Themes are pre-designed templates that make creating a professional-looking website a breeze. To find the perfect theme, go to the Themes section in your WordPress dashboard and browse through the available options. You can search by layout, color scheme, and more. Once you’ve found the right one, click Install and then Activate.

Step 2: Create a Page

Now that your theme is all set up, it’s time to create your homepage. Click on the Add New button in the Pages section of your dashboard and give your homepage a title like “Home” or “Hello!” From there, use the block editor to add text, images, or whatever else you want to include on your homepage.

Step 3: Set Your New Page as Your Homepage

You’ve created your page, but visitors won’t see it unless you set it up as your homepage. Go to the Settings section and click on Reading. Select “A static page” and choose your new homepage from the drop-down menu. Click Save Changes and voila! Visitors will now see your homepage first.

Step 4: Customize Your Homepage

Now comes the fun part – customizing your homepage to suit your style. Depending on the theme you’ve chosen, you may have options to add widgets or change the colors and layout. Click on the Customize option in the Appearance section of your dashboard to experiment with different options.

Your homepage looks great, but it’s still missing that special something. To add text, images, videos, and more to your homepage, go to the Pages section of your dashboard and click on your homepage. The block editor will let you add whatever you want. And if you want to add things like contact forms and social media icons, you’ll need to use plugins.

Step 6: Add Plugins to Your WordPress Site

Plugins are a great way to add functionality to your website. Want to add a newsletter sign-up form? Use a plugin! To browse through the available plugins, head to the Plugins section of your dashboard and click Add New. Search for the plugin you want, click Install and then Activate, and you’re all set.

Step 7: Preview Your Homepage

Before you go live, you’ll want to preview your homepage. Click on your homepage in the Pages section of your dashboard and use the Preview button to check how it looks. Make any necessary changes and preview again until it’s perfect.

Step 8: Make Your Homepage Live
