How To Fix Cant Read From The Source File Or Disk.
This tutorial shows how to solve can’t read from the source file or disk error on windows 10.
- Start Command Prompt as administrator.
- Enter this command chkdsk i: /r /f /x
(i: – is your drive letter ie [Local disk c:, d:, i:, g:, etc..]).
(/r – performs extensive check and recovers disk bad sectors).
(/f – fixes any error found on the disk).
(/x – dismounts the volume). - Click enter. This will take several hours. Or if you pc is fast it should take few minutes.
Also it depends on the size and number of files in the harddrive.
I was trying to copy a text file or any other file or folder from my pc to external harddisk partition.
But this error(Can’t read from the source file or disk) kept popping up.
After running the above command the problem was fixed and I was able to copy files without any issue.
The hard disk had two partitions. The First partition was working well. And the other wasn’t.
So i only repaired the second partition since the first one was working well.
